Pelvic Floor Dysfunction – Rehabilitation
special therapy unit

By “pelvic floor” we mean a thin layer of muscle fibers and connective tissue, extending to the lower anatomical region of the pelvis, between the pubic symphysis in the anterior part, and the sacrum in the posterior part.

This is where the pelvic organs rest: the bladder, the vagina/uterus and the rectum for the woman, while for the man, between the rectum and the bladder, the prostate.

When the function of the Pelvic Floor is disturbed, all the organs that rest on it suffer, and its management is characterized as multifactorial. Pelvic floor dysfunction in most cases may be due to:

  • Pregnancy/Childbirth
  • Menopause
  • Prostate surgery
  • Incorrect execution of exercises
  • Normal aging
  • Chronic constipation
  • Chronic cough
  • Obesity
  • “Behavior” in the toilet

While the most common symptoms include:

  • Urinary incontinence
  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Pain in the anatomical region of coccyx
  • Pelvic pain: neuralgia vulva
  • Pelvic pain: pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
  • Pelvic pain: erectile dysfunction
  • Prostatitis: pelvic pain in men
  • Bladder disorders
  • Bowel disorders
  • Sexual dysfunction

Physiotherapy and pelvic floor rehabilitation are first-line treatment for non-neurogenic urinary incontinence.

This includes a number of scientifically proven techniques and specialized equipment, where through a process of clinical reasoning, the management of this multidimensional phenomenon is allowed.

At our Center, a specially trained therapist applies the appropriate techniques, in consultation with your doctor, thus achieving the best possible result.
