Pelmatogram is an examination that analyzes the distribution of pressures during posture and gait, digitally capturing the morphology of the foot.
The morphology of the sole is often co-responsible for the appearance of a musculoskeletal problem and its perpetuation, as the forces transferred to our body and joints are transferred from the bottom up.
So it is often a factor to consider when a patient reports:
- Pain in the soles
- Backache
- Anterior Knee Pain
Other common causes where pelmatogram should be performed are:
- The flatfoot
- Pediatric flatfoot.
- Hallux valgus (bunion)
- Morton’s Neuroma
- Hardening of the sole (calluses)
- Metatarsalgia
- Achilles tendinopathy
- Imbalance
- Obese people
It is a device with thousands of sensors, which record the pressures exerted on each point of the foot, when it is in contact with its surface. The device is connected to a computer which collects, edits and analyzes the information.
The physiotherapist then studies the results and judges whether it is necessary to make orthotics that are placed inside the person’s shoe.

It is necessary for the person undergoing a pelmatogram to have been clinically examined by the physiotherapist, as there may be other factors that affect the results of the measurement.
At our center, a thorough clinical examination of the entire biokinetic chain of the human body is followed and then the pelmatogram is performed, if this is deemed necessary.
